Jeffrey Pike's grandparents are Star Service Fleet Captain Christopher
Pike and Vina, the lone survivor of the S.S. Columbia that crash-landed
on the planet Talos IV in 2232. They had three children, Todd, Dusty,
and Steve. The children were returned to the Federation from Talos IV
soon after their births for reasons classified under General Order Seven.
They were raised by relatives in Mojave. Steve became acquainted with
and later married a woman named Lauren Goodwin, and two and a half years
later they had their only child, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey entered Starfleet Academy as a Midshipman at age 19. He majored
in Spatial Navigation and Warp Drive Engineering, and finished fifth
in his class. During the initial planetary survey of Chamelar IX, he
discovered and apprehended a Chameloid who had used its abilities of
cellular metamorphosis to take the form of a fellow crewmember. After
distinguishing himself in the Battle of Wolf 359, he was promoted to
Lieutenant Commander and positioned as Chief Security Officer onboard
the USS Sentinel. During the Dominion War, the vessel was destroyed.
Pike, for his bravery and cunning, was promoted again to Captain and
given the command of the U.S.S. Excalibur-C. While Captain, Pike participated
in over two hundred planetary surveys. He accepted promotion to Commodore
at age 41, and was given command of the USS Knight, the premier exploration
vessel of the Alpha Quadrant.
While in command of the Knight, Pike successfully resolved a Talosian
illusion of a Kelvan invasion into the Milky Way Galaxy. The Talosians
revealed that the illusion had been a test of humanity, and that there
was a real Kelvan invasion force on its way. Immediately after this
mission, Pike was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and given the
position of Starfleet's Chief of Operations.
In July of 2384, when the Kelvan invasion force finally arrived in
the Milky Way, Pike was sent to the USS Ronin to help resolve the situation
once again. The real Kelvan invasion turned out to be much more serious
than the Talosian illusion had led the Federation tactical planners
to believe, nevertheless, through the valor and sacrifice of the Ronin's
crew the crisis was overcome and the Kelvans were peacefully transplanted
back into their original home galaxy. After returning to Starfleet Headquarters,
Pike was promoted to Admiral, and returned to his duties as Chief of
Operations.
Pike's psychological profile shows him to be slightly introverted,
with an aggression index unusually low for a starship commander. He
is prone to very mild fits of depression and daydreaming, although not
to an extent detrimental to his duties.
Pike has had no serious romances since becoming XO on the Excalibur-C.
A mild fixation on his ship and duties seems to have served as an emotional
block in this respect.
