There are times he comes off as being very serious about his work and
there have been times when he has seemed aloof. But usually, hes
approachable and calm in a crisis, though he may not be on the inside.
Hes in control of his emotions most of the time. Hes also
very devoted to his significant other, Tara Carmichael and their daughter
Zoe. Having them in his life has given him a sense of completion he
hasnt had before. It has also helped urge him into repairing fences
with family.
Spending time with Tara and Zoe, reading, martial arts, holo-adventures
especially when shared with some else preferably Tara, cooking,
hiking, history, theater and music.
Jayson Sandoval was born in 2350 on Basilan Island, Philippines, Earth.
His early life and education took place in Manila; it was a good childhood
with many fond memories. But after a semester at the University of the
Philippines, he decided academic life wasn't for him and he enlisted
in Starfleet in 2369, against the wish of his parents. Both strenuously
objected over his choice and it caused a deep rift between him and them,
though he continued to keep in contact, especially with his sisters.
Jayson
joined Starfleet in a Security billet at the beginnings of the Dominion
War; while he harbored sympathies toward the Maquis, he remained loyal
to the Federation and to Starfleet. He served aboard the USS Yamato
and the USS Voorhees during the war with distinction. He was aboard
the Voorhees in 2377 when the Orion Anti-Piracy campaign began. The
captain of the Voorhees was accepting bribes from various pirate captains
in exchange for safe passage. Jayson was among those who had discovered
the scheme and helped relieve the captain of command under questionable
circumstances. While the captain of the Voorhees was clearly guilty
and those involved in his removal were not charged with mutiny, Jayson
nonetheless made powerful enemies within Starfleet and his career stagnated
from that point onward.
After the end of the anti-piracy campaign, Jayson found himself reassigned
to a dilapidated outpost at the very edge of Federation space: Supply
Base 901. Though his enemies in high places remain, he has since cultivated
friends who are equally powerful and has managed to salvage his career.
With the upgrade of the outpost to a full-fledged Starbase, Jayson's
duties increased to include more traditional law-enforcement roles and
training of new Security officers, including Tara Carmichael, who was
eventually to take on the role of Chief of Station Security.
Before
meeting her, he had been with a few other women, but none that had evoked
as much feeling as Tara. It was also a surprise to find that the child
she carried matched his DNA. Having this revelation caused them both
to get to know one another better than they had ever dreamed and they
found that their connection was beyond that of magnetism, or of Tara
trying to find a replacement for the man she had lost in her own universe.
There was a genuine interest and connection. They both fostered it and
soon their relationship grew into one of very intense proportions. They
were already living together by the time Zoe Elizabeth was born on February
8, 2385.
As the need for a Station that size in the Serenity System came into
question after the Mulluran war came to an end, and it was decided the
station would be dismantled and moved; Jayson and Tara took time to
examine what they wanted for themselves and their daughter. After much
consideration, they both decided to take positions on the Serenity City
Police Force, foregoing Starfleet for the time being for a planet-side
life for their daughter.
