Distinguishing Physical Characteristics

Like most Xenexian males Sheppard has purple eyes and black hair. Standing at just over six feet, he is both athletic and imposing.

Personality

Sheppard is a quiet but intelligent man, who appears to prefer to be left alone, but infact is very friendly and sociable once amongst people he trusts.

He can almost sense danger or trouble approaching and appears to face up to it head on, rather than back away.

Background

Sheppard or "Sh'pp'rd of Geraxk" to give him his real name was born on the planet Xenen in 2350. At the time the planet was beginning to recover from centuries of being ruled over by a race known as the Danteri, who had systematically stripped the planet of most of it's natural resources.

The Danteri were finally forced off Xenex in 2349 after an uprising led by a teenager "M'k'n'zy of Calhoun" united the planet's population. A peace treaty was signed, brokered by the United Federation of Planets in order for the Danteri to gain admission to the UFP.

"Sh'pp'rd"'s father "G'r'th" had fought and survived many battles including some fighting alongside M'k'n'zy, traveling the entire surface of the desert world of Xenen. It wasn't until peace was finally won that he learnt that his home city Geraxk, along with his family, had been wiped off the planet surface some six months earlier. "G'r'th" was later to discover that his wife had infact survived, moving just weeks earlier to her sister's city having discovered that she was pregnant.

For years, "G'r'th" would tell his son of the great battles he'd fought in and of the warlord "M'k'n'zy of Calhoun" who had freed Xenex. Once "Sh'pp'rd" was at school he attempted to learn more about "M'k'n'zy of Calhoun", but soon discovered that most texts said that he had abandoned his people and left the planet. It wasn't until he was sixteen and made his first trip off-world that "Sh'pp'rd" discovered that infact "M'k'n'zy of Calhoun" had infact joined Starfleet. With his new-found discovery "Sh'pp'rd" began to feel that Starfleet was something that he too wanted to join and with some protests from his parents he eventually arrived on Earth in 2368.

Because of the problems everyone not of Xenex appeared to find pronouncing his real name, he had already adopted the surname "Sheppard" because it was the closest anyone got to saying it correctly, the Jack part however came much later after he had graduated the Academy.

He was sitting in a bar minding his own business when a drunk had called out 'Jack' towards him. When Sheppard had not responded, the now annoyed drunk had approached him and took a swing, which was the last thing he did for six weeks. Sheppard easily blocked the approaching punch, breaking several bones in his attackers hand in the process. He then pushed his right wrist into the drunks chin, breaking his jaw in two places and sending him flying backwards across the room. He later discovered that his attacker had been a fellow cadet from his year, but had been booted out in the third year for being drunk on Romulan ale.

By now a crowd, including several drinking partners of the fallen drunk had risen to their feet and were heading Sheppard's way. After five minutes of fierce fighting, Sheppard walked away leaving seven men on the floor of the bar, broken and bruised. As he left the bar, one of the guys called out 'Jack' once more. Sheppard turned around and firmly said, "Will you please stop calling me Jack."

The strongest skills Sheppard discovered he had were in flight school and he was encouraged to take the Helms Officer career path by Starfleet. After graduating from the Academy, Sheppard spent many years working his way up the career ladder. His first assignment was the USS Dakota as a Junior Helm officer where he served alongside another Cadet from his year, Alice Hunt. She was on the path towards command, but as they had graduated together they formed a strong friendship whilst serving together. By now the Dominion-Cardassian war was coming to a close and in 2374 Sheppard was re-assigned as a replacement Helm Officer on the USS Cape Town which included a field promotion.

When the USS Cape Town was destroyed in 2375, Sheppard found himself once again transferred, this time to the USS New England as senior helm officer. In 2377 he was promoted once more to the rank of Lieutenant and the position of chief helm officer. When the USS New England was decommissioned in 2378, Sheppard decided to take a chance and a change of direction. He enrolled into the Starfleet advanced pilot school and passed with flying colours.

Whilst he was back at Starfleet Academy, he was reunited with Alice. During his time on the various vessels they had served on, they never lost with each other and the relationship had moved on from being just close friends to one of mutual attraction. Alice was back on Earth going through the two year Starfleet Command Advanced School and the two took every opportunity they had to be together.

Just before Sheppard was assigned to Gold Wing of the USS Prowler, he proposed to Alice. By now Alice was a Lieutenant Commander whilst Sheppard was a Lieutenant, which could have caused problems with Starfleet, even though they were known to "bend" the rules occasionally. Alice made a promise that as soon as they were of equal rank, then they would get married. It wasn't until 2383 however before Alice could make good that promise.

They kept in touch and in 2382 Alice was assigned to the USS Prowler as the third officer. In 2383, Sheppard was promoted to the position of CAG for the USS Prowler's fighter wings & Wing Commander of Gold Wing. His promotion also brought with it finally the rank of Lieutenant Commander and the two were married within a month.

In 2385, Alice was promoted to the rank of Commander and offered the position of XO, which she accepted once again outranking her husband. In August 2386, the Captain of the USS Prowler retired, leaving Alice the seat of Captain. Promoted to the rank of Captain, she needed an XO, but got the surprise of her life when she met her new XO, who turned out to be Sheppard. He had infact applied for the position in total secrecy, so as not to suffer the cries of nepotism should he get the position.

The two have continued to work well together, with Sheppard retaining his position as CAG and Wing Commander of Gold Wing.
