The Falcon Class began life in the Utopia Plantia Yards at the end of the Dominion War. It was designed by Commodore Daniel Nugent to have a combination of traits found in the Intrepid and Nova Classes, and also be capable of defending itself when needed. Construction began in late 2376. The frame was completed in 2379, and the computer core and warp engines were installed and tested later that year. By 2382 the construction was nearly complete. The hull was completed and the interior process began which completed in 2383. The Falcon took her first test flight in 2383 and was a disaster. The structural integrity fields were those of the Defiant Class, and were inadequate for the speeds the Falcon was able to achieve. Two more years of reconfiguring and redevelopment were required to fix the problem.
Due to the hostilities brewing in the Briar Patch and other areas of the Federation, Starfleet's resources were temporarily diverted, and the Falcon's official relaunching was delayed for almost two years. Finally in December 2386 the Falcon was placed under the Command of Commander Richard Wallace and assigned to survey and chart the area beyond the Briar Patch.
The Falcon is a scout ship that's main mission is to survey steller events and chart and explore areas of space for up to 12 months. She is equipped with new transphasic shielding and improved sensor jamming capablites. She can locate potental threats and quickly escape without being detected. The Falcon has no holodecks, but has a large Astrometrics lab and twenty science labs. Her computer is capable of holding three starship's worth of information. The top-mounted pod is filled with advanced sensor systems.
The Falcon makes resupply runs to Serenity and Supply Base 901 regularly and is at the service of the Colony's CO. She will be assigned to this area for a minuim of two years.
