Often described as a flying barn in space, the Chimera class was designed during the years of the Cardassian War in the mid-24th century. The vessel, despite it appearance is both fast and deadly, carrying two wings of starfighters in it's large hanger deck which can be launched from either of it's two flight decks.
Eight Scorpion Class Armoured Scout Fighters Sixteen Valkyrie Escort Fighters Two Cat's Eye Class System Patrol Vessels. The vessel was designed for such missions as deep infiltration into enemy territory, long range reconnisance, border patrol and fast strike. To aid in these missions the vessel is equipped with a pair of advanced sensor pods on the ventral hull, given extremely detailed long-range scans and a powerfull array of weapons. The Chimera class was one of the first production vessels to have the capability to fire the newly developed Quantum torpedos, although at the time they required a complex dual-mode launch system.
The USS Prowler was one of the last Chimera class vessel to be produced, the class replaced by the Defiant class. However, several of these vessel are still in service and all have recently been upgraded with an advanced sensor defusing array which makes the vessel hard to detect.
