The USS Sutherland is the largest Starfleet vessel that makes regular stops at Serenity. In addition to conducting scientific exploration in the surrounding sectors, it also makes a monthly supply run through the Briar Patch Nebula to the nearest Federation outpost on the other side, Starbase 732. Its pod is specially modified to haul large cargo items such as industrial replicators, and small support craft that would have a hard time getting through the Briar Patch on their own.
