Tall and athletic, Seska has kept herself in excellent condition. She is also very attractive and turns men's heads wherever she goes.
Born on Ariel, Seska had a privileged upbringing, attending the best schools the Anglo-Sino allied worlds could offer. Her father was a former companion turned senator, whilst her mother was a military commander in the Anglo-Sino Navy. A bright and dedicated student, Seska excelled at school, showing a keen interest in astronomy and physics.
Whilst her mother didn't want her daughter to join the military, her father was far more open to his daughter's desires. After finishing her schooling, Seska joined the Anglo-Sino Navy academy where she started to show an aptitude for flying. Whilst at the Academy, she learnt to fly almost every vessel known, with small vessels being her favourite. She also developed a knack of looking at tactical situations from outside the box and gained much praise from her tutors.
Upon graduating from the Academy, she was posted to Navy cruiser ASA Prometheus, where she flew Navy gunboats and fighters. Rising to the rank of Captain, she became part of the 'Flying Angels' fighter squadron, an all female unit onboard the ASA Prometheus Then the war of unification broke out.
It was during the early months of 2509, that everything changed for Seska, when the ASA Prometheus was assigned to the frontline between the Allied Worlds and the Independents. Seska and her Wing Commander Major Alison Walker were assigned a covert mission to destroy what the Intelligence services claimed was an Independents listening post on a small planetoid called 'Torchwood'. The planetoid had been a mining colony during the early years of colonisation, but was supposedly abandoned of twenty years ago.
When the pair made their attack run on the supposed post, the Major suddenly ordered Seska to abort and return to the rendezvous point. Following orders, Seska aborted her attack run, closely followed by her Wing Commander, neither of them launching their payload. Instead they returned to the ASA Prometheus, where both were immediately arrested and debriefed.
Eventually both Major Walker and Seska faced a court-marshall for disobeying a direct order, to which both officers pleaded not guilty. Whilst Seska's argument was that she was following the orders of her superior, Major Walker's reason was that she believed the orders to be a criminal act. Whilst the Major took the brunt of the responsibility, Seska's part in the action was not overlooked. Major Walker was sentenced to fifteen years in the military prison on Angel, whilst Seska was given three years. Both were stripped of their rank and dishonourably discharged from the Navy.
So Seska sat out the remainder of the war in the 'Glasshouse' on Angel. After serving two and a half years, Seska was released, three months after the end of the war and found herself in a very different world. Her parents wanted nothing more to do with her, especially her mother who was now a high-ranking officer in the New Alliance Navy and a decorated officer, Seska had brought dishonour to her family.
Seska also learned that the planetoid 'Torchwood' had been totally destroyed by a nuclear strike, soon after their aborted mission. The fact that the readings that had been detected turned out to be a small group of refugees who had used what remained of the mines as their new home had been swiftly covered up.
So Seska was forced to find her own way in the world, serving as pilot on several freighters before securing a job with a business man named Reeko Jackson. Whilst Seska was well aware that her employer was not 'squeaky clean', most of his activities were on the right side of the law...just. Then she witnessed something that haunts her dreams even now and decided to leave.
She took one of her employers vessels and escaped. Evading those sent after her, she eventually found herself on the world Silverhold. Realising that the stolen vessel was far too hot to keep, she traded it for a rundown Firefly class cargo vessel.
Renaming the vessel 'Torchwood' after the events that changed her life, she headed out into the black to start afresh. With a rundown ship and no crew, she knew that her new life was going to be a struggle.
Seska can be a tough Captain, but she forms strong bonds with those around her. When pushed into a fight, she may not be the one who throws the first punch, but she'll fight until she throws the last. Her beauty is something she uses to her tactical advantage, using it to hide the fact that she is also intelligent.
Seska has always kept herself in good shape, something that goes back to her childhood. This has continued through her military training and career, including her time in the military prison.
When not working, she can often be found sitting in the mess reading the latest books or listening to her music collection.
